New Travel Rules for Europe: What You Need to Know Before Your Next Trip!
Starting in mid-2025, travelers from visa-exempt countries, including the U.S., will need an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) approval to enter most European countries in the Schengen Zone. The UK is also introducing its own ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) requirement for visa-free visitors.
These quick online authorizations are designed to enhance security and must be obtained before travel, so it’s important to plan ahead.
Read on to see the different requirements being put in place for 2025.
U.K. ETA Requirements
Beginning January 8, 2025, all travelers visiting or transiting through the United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) must obtain a United Kingdom ETA. This includes if you only have a connecting flight through the UK like London.
Who needs to apply?
The UK ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is a digital entry requirement and applies to all travelers, regardless of age, except for those traveling with valid British or Irish passports/documents. Parents or guardians may apply on behalf of minors.
When do I need to apply?
Applications must be submitted before departing on your trip. We suggest applying once you have your travel arrangements booked. After submitting the application, you will usually get a response within 3 business days. Approval will be linked to your passport and no physical documents are needed.
How much does it cost?
There is a fee of £10 (or approximately $13 USD) for applying, which is paid right online using a credit or debit card.
How long is the ETA valid for?
ETAs are valid for multiple entries over two years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you must re-apply for a new ETA.
Where do I apply?
We highly recommend using the mobile apps to submit your application since it requires photos and face scans in the application. If you cannot use the mobile app, they do have a website available.

When do I need to apply?
The ETIAS has not been released yet and is expected to go into effect sometime in 2025. However, it has been delayed numerous times before this and an exact validity date is not yet known.
Rest assured that if you are traveling to Europe this year and working with us, we will keep you informed of the situation.
How long will the ETIAS be valid for?
ETIAS will be valid for multiple entries over three years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you must re-apply for a new ETIAS.
